A new business venture – event planning

I must apologise for my lack of posts since 2017 began. The first few months have been so busy but also super fun and exciting!

You may not know this but my career for the last 10 years has been mainly focused on planning a variety of events both in the UK and overseas. I absolutely love organising events, it can be hard work at times like most jobs but my passion for the industry never fades away. I have learnt so much over the years and will continue to keep myself well equipped in order to continue to offer an excellent service to each and every client I meet.

My new business venture

So why am I writing this blog post? With 2017 being a brand new year I have recently made the decision to set up my own event planning business, Siân Chaplin Events – exciting I know! I have thought about it for a while now but always put it to the back of my mind mainly because it is a pretty scary thought setting up your own business and making it a success. Don’t get me wrong I’m not afraid of hard work but I felt I needed a real support network and a mentor to really make it work and keep the enthusiasm going.

How did I get started?

In January 2017 I enrolled onto a one day wedding business course, organised and presented by the lovely and inspirational Pamella Dunn. I had known of Pamella for quite some time (thanks to Instagram) so when I saw her latest post promoting the course I just had to sign up and find out more.

I’m not sure about you but when I actively decide to do something new I have to find out as much as humanly possible. It puts my mind at ease and really reassures me that I am doing the right thing. Not only that but it helps me to prepare! Before booking onto the course I emailed Pamella to find out a little more and make sure the course was for people like me who had an idea in mind but had no plans in place and needed a little direction to get the ball rolling. Pamella was so quick to come back and was really helpful. Three weeks later I was setting off to join a small group of like minded individuals who were ready to make their dreams a reality!

The day itself was so informative and gave me the reassurance and encouragement I needed to really make a go of it. Pamella covered a variety of topics – writing a business plan, social media, marketing, collaborating. We also had some professional photos taken for us to use on our website etc.

The whole day was just so inspiring and really made me think “I can do this”, winner! I left feeling so happy and met some wonderful ladies, some of which already had their businesses up and running but were keen to move onto the next step.

A special mention has to go out to the lovely Jo at White Rose Cake Design. Not only does she make the most wonderful cakes for a variety of occasions but she also trusted in me to organise a wedding styled photoshoot that herself and Alison from Alison Jane Bridal had envisaged. This was the most fabulous opportunity and I will forever be grateful to Jo for asking me to be a part of it. I will of course be blogging all about this on my sister site in due course. The photos are top secret at the moment but below is a sneak preview. Wait until you see the rest, so beautiful!

What’s next?

It has been a few months now since I did the course and so much has happened. I now have my very own website, a photoshoot under my belt and lots of exciting plans and projects coming up, one of which will be adding a styling element to my business. Having the opportunity to showcase my style through my business is very exciting, watch this space!

I’d love for you to take a look at my website to find out more about me and the services I currently offer. I don’t just plan weddings – baby showers, hen parties, business events; I love to be involved in them all!

You can also follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest.
